In Chapter Two the authors celebrate
Oman’s living craft heritage with a detailed review of each major
craft industry, starting in Musandam and leading southward across mountains,
desert and fertile plain to the southern region of Dhofar, taking in major
coastal entrepots, the citadel towns of the Interior and other sites of
craft production along the way. For each craft discipline, the authors
examine materials, tools and techniques, as well as the context within
which traditional craft production takes place. The result is a fascinating
portrayal of the resourcefulness and dedication of Oman’s craftsmen
and women, and the important role they occupy in traditional Omani society.
